After the visit, follow the return instructions for your selected treatment, keep treated surfaces and bait placements undisturbed unless told otherwise, and do not spray insecticide yourself. Some activity can appear in the first days. Keep a dated log with photos of anything you see and report activity that continues, so it can be assessed under the terms in your written quote.
This guide covers the days and weeks after a treatment. Before the visit, see how to prepare for bed bug treatment; to identify the problem, see the bed bug guide or the cockroach guide.
The first day: follow the return instructions
When you can go back in depends on the method and the products used, and the technician confirms it for your treatment. Ask before the team leaves if anything is unclear, for example when children or pets can use the room again, and keep the written instructions somewhere easy to find.
After a bed bug treatment
Keep cleaned items sealed until you are told
Bedding and clothes that were cleaned before the visit should stay sealed until the team says they can come out. Do not carry untreated belongings from other rooms into the treated room.
Ask before cleaning treated surfaces
Where indoor residual spray was used, it leaves a residual layer on treated surfaces that keeps working on survivors and newly hatched bed bugs. Ask how long to leave those surfaces before wiping or mopping them.
What you may see in the days after
Bed bugs can still appear while eggs hatch and reach treated surfaces. Note the date, room and what you saw. Activity that continues, spreads to new rooms or comes with new bites is worth reporting rather than treating yourself.
Warranty and reintroduction
Eligible bed bug packages carry guarantee and retreatment terms set out in the written quote. Follow the treatment recommendations and contact Four Solutions if activity continues so it can be assessed under those terms. Bed bugs brought in again, for example after travel, are excluded; the luggage checklist covers that.
After a cockroach treatment
Leave bait placements alone
Gel bait is placed at the harbourage and feeding points found during the inspection. Do not wipe it away when you clean, and do not spray over or near it, because spray can contaminate bait or keep cockroaches away from it.
Expect some sightings at first
Baits act over time rather than on contact, and egg cases laid before the visit can still hatch, so a few sightings in the first days are expected. Sightings that continue past the follow up period, or appear in new areas, should be reported.
Keep food and water away from them
Wipe grease from the stove, wash dishes before bed, keep the bin lidded and dry the sink. Treatment holds better when the kitchen stops feeding them.
Warranty
Eligible cockroach treatment includes a 3 month warranty. The quote confirms the covered areas, conditions and follow up process.
Keep an observation log
A simple dated log makes a follow up visit faster and fairer, because it shows where and when activity appears. Copy these columns into your phone notes or print them, and add a row each time you see something. The row below is an example.
| Date and time | Room or area | What you saw | Photo | Changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14 Oct, 11pm | Bedroom 2 | Two live bugs on the bed frame | Yes | None |
Under What you saw, note live insects, droppings or spotting, egg cases or new bites. Under Changes, note anything since the treatment such as furniture moved, travel, a neighbour treated or cleaning done.
For photos, take one close up with something for scale and one wider shot that shows where it is in the room. Keep any insect you catch in a sealed clear bag or container so it can be identified.
When to contact Four Solutions
- Activity continues or increases after the first days.
- Activity appears in rooms or areas that were not treated.
- New bites appear after a bed bug treatment.
- You are unsure about the return or cleaning instructions for your treatment.
Send your log and photos so the activity can be assessed against the covered areas and conditions in your quote. The bed bug treatment page and the cockroach treatment page explain the methods and warranties in full.

After treatment FAQs
When can I go back into the room after treatment?
It depends on the method and the products used. Follow the return instructions the technician gives for your selected treatment; after a residual stage, a room cooling down does not by itself mean it is ready.
Is it normal to see bed bugs or cockroaches after treatment?
Some activity can appear in the days after a treatment, for example insects that hatch from eggs or cockroaches still reaching bait. Activity that continues or increases should be logged with dates and photos and reported so it can be assessed.
Can I clean or mop after the treatment?
Ask before cleaning treated surfaces. Residual treatment keeps working on treated surfaces and bait placements need to stay in place, so follow the cleaning instructions given for your treatment.
Should I spray insecticide myself if I see more?
No. Household spray can keep cockroaches away from bait and does not reach hidden bed bugs. Log what you see and report it instead.
What does the warranty cover after treatment?
It depends on the treatment and the written quote. Eligible bed bug packages and eligible cockroach treatment carry warranty terms set out in writing; follow the treatment recommendations and report continuing activity so it can be assessed under those terms. Bed bugs brought in again, for example after travel, are excluded.
